March 19th - March 21st
Just got back from Abyss Studios and the ongoing recording of the God Among Insects album. Thought I'd give you a little update on what's happened.
Drummer Tobben picked us up and we arrived at the studio about 9.30 pm Friday. Tommy met us up and showed us around the two studios. The location of the studio is in the middle of nowhere in a big red house. It's split in half with Tommys' studio on one side and Peters' on the other. It's a big place with a big bedroom with like 8 beds, kitchen and shower. It was in some serious need of renovation, but I wouldn't mind living there at all. Peters' studio were a little bit more luxurious, but not at all as I had expected.
K put the demo CD on and Tommy got so excited about it he started to mic up the drums at once and fixing the guitar sound. We had a very nice evning with some beers and music. Tommy, who were just gonna welcome us and then go up to his house and daughter, stayed for a couple of hours. Me and K wanted to play some Playstation games, so we moved two beds out to the kitchen. We couldn't get the Playstation to work (probably cause of the alcohol), so we gave up and went to sleep.
Woke up around 9 am Saturday, and after K and Tobben came back from buying us some breakfast, the recording started. By lunch, drums on 5 songs were finished. We took a little longer lunch break with some gameplaying and bullshit talking. By 18.00 pm there were drums recorded on all songs but one. Tommy had to go pick up his daugther somewhere so we moved on to the beer. K and Tobben rehearsed the last song some and then it was time for the big final in the Swedish Eurovision song contest on tv. Alot of beer and Playstation-playing before we finally went to sleep.
Again we woke up around 9 when Tommy walked in. After listening through the songs recorded the day before, that all sounded killer, Tobben put down the last song. Since the album was like 28 minutes long only, K and Tobben decided to make one more track. That took about half an hour from the first riff until it was recorded. Great song. I can tell you guys this is gonna be one hell of an album.
Around 16.00 me and Tobben had packed up all our stuff, said goodbye to Tommy and K, and left. I talked to K like 10 minutes ago and he had already put down one guitar on 7 out of 9 songs in the two hours it took for us to get home. Tomas will be there some time around 13 am tomorrow to put down the bass. In this speed the album will be ready in no time.
Sadly there are no photos taken at this point, since the camera just didn't wanna work, but we've filmed quite alot with Tobbens digital camera. We'll try to make some small videoclips to put up pn the site and at the forums. He had to take the camera with him when he went home though, cause he needs it on the Vomitory tour, but if we're lucky, Tomas will bring his.
K called me around 9.20 pm this evening and told me that Masse had dropped by. He wasn't supposted to be there until Thursday. When he heard the songs recorded, he rushed home (he now lives in Ludvika, not to far from the studio) to fix someting in the house just to be able to come back later on to record some vocals.
11.45 pm K called me again. He was now finished with all guitars on the album. Just some finetuning left for tomorrow. Now he was only waiting for Masse to come back. I wouldn't be suprised at all if when I hear from K tomorrow and all the vocals will be done.
I'll give you a new update as soon as I hear anything.
March 22nd
Just heard from K again who had just woken up. Appearantly Masse got back there at 12.30 last night. Then they arranged the lyrics to fit the songs... wrote the last lyric for the new song, and recorded 2 songs. They didn't quit until 5 am when K got to tired to continue. Masse didn't want to stop, but K was just too tired. So Masse took the lyrics and went home to work on them.
Today K will start with the finetuning of the guitars, while waiting for Tomas to arrive. He and his friend were going to leave this morning. As they live in the dark north of Sweden it'll take 'em about 6 hours to get there. Masse will also return sometime during the day to continue with the vocals.
At this pace I wouldn't be surpriced if they're done recording early tomorrow.
Anyway... Since Tomas and his friend were a bit late, K put down bass for three songs while waiting. Tomas will take over now as they arrived 10 minutes ago.
Not a word from Masse yet today... maybe he's still sleeping after recording all night. I'm sure he'll show up when least expected, like at midnight or something.
The recording of the bass were finished at 8.30 this evening. Last time I spoke to K he was trying to get a hold of Masse to tell him that he's welcome to come do the rest of the vocals at any time.
I'll give more information tomorrow, cause I'm tired and are going to bed now.
Goodnight and a big hug to everyone.
March 23rd
K and Tommy has gone through the songs this morning to see if there's anything that needs to be fixed.
Masse won't arrive until 12.00 today since he had to go to the dentist (he has had a terrible toothache for some time now). Don't think the vocals will take long though since it's Masse we're talking about. I'll give you un update on that as soon as I get home from work tonight, somewhere around 10 pm.
March 24th
Yesterday started out kinda slow, and by 5 pm they'd only done one more song (that's 3 counting the two they did the other night). Then Tomas and Tony (Tomas's friend) went to the store to buy some beer, and that seemed to be the trick. Even though they had to re-arrange the lyrics, one by one, to fit the songs, Masse was all done by 11 pm.
Tommy, who's working hours originally stops at 6 pm, just took a break and came back to the studio... very excited about the songs and sound. When I talked to K at 11 pm he had gone home again, but were once again coming back to listen trough it and maybe help adding some special effects (no, I won't tell you what, hehe).
More later today...
Edit: Oh, and sorry, forgot to tell you that Tomas did bring his videocamera, so now there should be tape from the whole recording of the album. Awesome, ey!?
K just returned home, and here's an update for you.
So...
We are back from the studio now. Everything is completed except the mixing which I will leave to Tommy, as we have to rehearse for the upcoming TPH-gig next weekend. We haven't rehearsed since May or so so we need a day or two to get shit straight.
Hanna's been doing an excellent job with informing you guys about the recording, you just gotta love her...
As mentioned, we finished the recording last night and just wrote down the lyrics correctly for the actual cd-booklet (IF we decide to include them that is) today. This album was recorded in fucken 4 days. I have never felt so great and relaxed with a recording before and it all went completely ace. I wanna thank Tommy for some excellent work, as well as the guys in the band for creating a fucken killer album.
I'm sitting here with a rough-mix of the album and it sounds great to say the least. Can't wait to hear the mastered version and the final mix. Tommy's got like 5 or 6 days to mix thie shit so I expect great things when I get my hands on the final version.
As Hanna told you, one new track was written in the studio and I fucken love this crap. It turned out heavy as all fuck and fast as even more all fuck with an ending that will kill you all.
You'll see what I'm talking about when you get to hear it.
We have filmed approximately 4 hours of the recording and we also have some 60 photos to show you when the time comes.
Hail Satan, children.
This album kills.
As expected.
Oh... When we see it fit we will put some clip up for you here.
